BIOGRAPHY
Kate Russell is a journalist, author, and blogger who has been writing about technology, gaming, and the internet since 1995. She has published a book on tips and tricks to allow small businesses and start-ups to make the best use of the internet called Working the Cloud: The Ultimate Guide to Making the Internet Work for You and Your Business (2013). This is available alongside her two fiction works, Elite: Mostly Harmless (2014), based on the critically acclaimed Elite: Dangerous video game, and A Bookkeepers Guide to Practical Sorcery (2016), a young adult fantasy novel.
Kate has also been a regular on Click, the BBC’s flagship technology programme, and writes a monthly column for National Geographic Traveller magazine entitled ‘Tech Traveller’.
Kate is a frequent blogger of all things tech. Her own personal blog, katerussell.co.uk, has won numerous awards, including UK Blogs ‘best individual tech blog’ award in 2015. For two years running she has been voted in the top 50 most influential women in UK IT by Computer Weekly, and was a top three contender for the 2018 Digital Leader of the Year award.
From the effect of new technologies on businesses to cybercrime and date protection, Kate’s role as a tech journalist and blogger has given her extensive insight on myriad areas of the technological landscape. She is just as comfortable talking about the business applications of live content streaming as she is speaking about women in tech and the gender bias that is so often observed in the field.
