Legendary British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes has some incredible stories to tell. Named “The World’s Greatest Living Explorer” by the Guinness Book of Records, Fiennes is well known for his perilous expeditions to some of the world’s most remote destinations.
Over his career, Ranulph Fiennes has led over twenty expeditions, including a climb to the summit of Mount Everest in 2009, after two previous attempts had ended before the peak.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes has been the first to achieve a number of incredible feats, including being the first man to cross both polar ice-caps and climb to the top of the highest peak – a staggering ascent of 8,850 metres (29,035ft). He also scaled the North Face of the Eiger in 2007.
The death-defying expeditions led by Fiennes have raised huge sums of money for charities. As a result, he has been awarded an OBE for human endeavour and charitable services. Online fundraising platform JustGiving also named Ranulph Fiennes as its top celebrity online fundraiser.
As well as his series of incredible expeditions, Sir Ranulph Fiennes has taken on a number of different challenges and feats of endurance.
In 2003, he completed seven marathons in seven days, over seven different continents. He also attempted to cross Antarctica during the winter months, despite temperatures plunging to a glacial -90°C.
Ranuph Fiennes has penned a number of books on his expeditions and challenges. His books include the number one bestseller The Feather Men, which later went on to inspire a major motion picture, Killer Elite, and Agincourt, a study of his ancestors’ role during the battle bearing the same name.
